What is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. Pilates is a physical fitness system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates called this method "contrology" and focused the 34 mat-based exercises on improving flexibility, muscular strength , postural alignment, core strength and balance. Pilates can be practised by men and women of all ages and is a gentle, yet effective way of improving quality of life, and bringing calm and balance to the mind.
